Hat Month Grand Finale!

Well folks, it has been a month. I'm actually kind of sick of wearing hats so I'm glad it's finally time to let my head be free. For my final hat I'm bringing back the hat I wore to my wedding. This was actually the first time I'd worn it post-wedding and it felt kind of freeing to be able to wear it again without all the emotional weight attached. For anyone who was not around when I got married (which is probably most of the blog readers since I started this blog during my divorce) I got married in a white tux with black shirt and a white bowler hat with a birdcage veil.

Today I wore the wedding hat with a pink and white striped button down shirt, jeans, and pink converse shoes. Not a bad finale, if I do say so myself.

Me smiling in my outfit.

Geek Hat

I've been saving a couple of my best hats for last. This hat makes me super happy. It's a black hat that says "GEEK" in white lettering and it has a floral brim. I wore it with jeans and a pink t-shirt. I also tried it with a chunky flower necklace. Not sure whether I liked it better with or without the necklace though. What do you think?

Selfie with the necklace.

Selfie without the necklace.

Today I had work and I got to see Love Bug. We spent most of our time together playing with some new toy airplanes. Some time was also spent trying to yank at my necklace, which is why I ultimately decided that the no-necklace look was the winner.

Winter Hat in September?

Ok. Today's hat is totally inappropriate for the weather but I'm running out of hats! Good thing there are only a couple more days to go...

Me in my goth winter-in-September outfit.

I wore my black winter hat, a black shirt, black pants, black shoes, and a mermaid skeleton necklace. Clearly the hat did not last long since it was far too hot for today's weather. Oh well. I had to take it off at work anyway since it wasn't really an indoor hat.

Fierce Friday: The Fascinator and Climate Change Protesting

Let's talk about fascinators.

Princess Beatrice in her now-infamous royal wedding pretzel fascinator.

Ok, Princess Beatrice's ridiculous fascinator aside, I think fascinators are great! They're incredibly versatile and they add an interesting finishing touch to an outfit. Sadly, they appear to be a women-only thing. Except for me! And these guys:

They're not wearing their fascinators in a particularly inspiring way, however. Here are a couple of classy fascinator examples:

Side note: Apparently the "sexy fascinator picture" look involves being shirtless and looking over your left shoulder? Good to know.

While traditional fascinators are lovely, my tastes lean more towards the avant-garde. By which I mean, I like bizarre and outrageous fascinators. And at least a couple of celebrities agree with me:

I also found some really great non-celebrity fascinator inspiration:

Despite loving weird fascinators, I opted to go fairly basic with my own outfit. I had to go to school to take a test and I figured that just wearing a fascinator was edgy enough. I went with a blue fascinator that coordinated with my blue shirt, blue checkered vest, blue multi-strand necklace, and bluejeans.

Me with my head tilted so you can see the fascinator.

Normal selfie of me.

The other thing I did today was attend a climate change protest. I grabbed my old Ursula costume out of the closet and made a sign that said "It's getting hotter under the water" and off I went.

Me at the protest all dressed up as Ursula and holding my sign. That weird tint to my skin is purple makeup not sunburn!

Protest band.

Crowd shot of the sit-in.

Here's a link to a WCVB Article about the protest. And here's an aerial view of the bridge we blocked off:

Snagged from WHDH.com. The caption to the photo says "Climate change protesters block bridge in Boston."

Head Lice Day

Today started off with my school clinical and a mini disaster that can be summed up in two words: head lice.

Black and white photo of a woman looking distressed and it says "Head lice? Say it ain't so!"

That's right. One of the kids came in with head lice and we had to check the entire grade. I can now say one thing with great certainty: head lice is a pain in the butt. And after you spend your entire day checking children for head lice you begin to get paranoid that you have head lice.

Meme that says "Not sure if head is itchy because I have lice or head is itchy because there is talk of lice."
After that harrowing start to my day, I decided I needed a long hot shower and a change of clothes. So I wore the outfit I should have worn to Love Bug's friend's birthday party. My Pokemon outfit! I had on a black baseball cap that says "Dope" but the O is a pokeball. I also had on my black Miley Cyrus parody shirt that says "I came in like a pokeball" and has Pikachu swinging on a pokeball. And I finished off the outfit with jeans and my black sneakers. This might just be the dorkiest outfit I own.

Me trying to look cool.

Once I'd donned my new getup, I went to visit Love Bug. Who does not have head lice (thank God!) and who is currently learning about Egypt in school.

Two Clinicals and Goats

Today was a full day. I had my school clinical and my overnight adults clinical. I wore my hat outfit to my school clinical. It consisted of a black and white diamond hat, white shirt with tiny black diamonds on it, black suspenders, black dress pants, and black dress shoes. I felt very snazzy. I think I would've fit in well with a swing band.

Me in my school clinical outfit.

Since I had a sizeable gap between the two clinicals, I took some time in between them to go to a local farm. I swung on their swings and watched their goats for a while while I ate a snack.

A brown goat watches me from the fence.

Haircut Day

Today I wore a grey and white plaid cap, grey shirt, cross necklace, jeans, and black combat boots. I liked the look:

I also got a haircut today and since you can't see it under my hat I took off my hat for a photo at Fenway Health Center:

Biking to a Dinner Party

Today I went to a dinner party hosted by Karaoqueen. And because it's still hat month and I was riding my bike to the party, I decided to take the lazy way out today and use my bike helmet as my hat.

Me in jeans, a purple and white striped shirt, and my black bicycle helmet.

Bike helmets are sometimes seen as uncool, but having worked with people who have traumatic brain injuries I can tell you that bike helmets are a must for everyone. Plus, the tiny cat in this meme things you should wear a helmet:

Meme with adorable kitten looking up at you and the words "Please wear your bicycle helmet" across the meme.

Camo Hat

Today was Sunday so I went to church and then to work. I wore my camo hat, "I'm good fat" avocado shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Here I am in a parking lot next to a tree wearing my hat. I took this photo between church and work:

Me smiling at the camera.

Pacman and Mini T Share a Birthday Today

And my hat bears no relation to either of them. I've got on a grey and white pinstriped hat, dark red t-shirt, dinosaur skeleton necklace, grey pants that match the pinstripe hat, and red doc martens that match the t-shirt. Of course the selfie only captures my top half. I used to have a selfie stick. I should really try to find it since all of these top-half-only outfit pictures are kind of silly. Sigh.

Me in today's hat.

Today's outfit went with me to work, where the kids loved my dinosaur necklace. Clearly children have the best taste in necklaces.

Fierce Friday: Bringin' Back the Tiny Hat

Cartoon cowboy with tiny hat.

In a complete shift from last week's hat I present to you: the tiny hat. Whimsical and ridiculous, but oddly compelling when done right. When I think of tiny hats, I think of three things:

Thing 1: Goths

Goth woman in a tiny black tophat.

Thing 2: Wedding Outfits

Woman in a wedding dress and tiny white hat.

Thing 3: "Men on Film," the comedy sketch from In Living Color

Men on Film - and wearing a tiny hat.

I find tiny hats hilarious and fun. But I've never worn one. Clearly this needs to change. After looking online at many examples of tiny hat wearing, I decided on this outfit:

Selfie of me in my tiny hat outfit.

It's a glittery purple tiny hat, pink and purple mardi gras beads, a white short sleeved crop top that says "Glitter Queen" and has silver sequins on the sleeves, and a tutu skirt that I really should have included in the picture but didn't. I'm not sure I pulled it off but at least I amused myself.

That said, I'm fairly sure I look less ridiculous than Lady Gaga in her tiny Kermit hat:

Lady Gaga wearing an outfit made of Kermit dolls and a hat made out of a Kermit head.

Unrelatedly, did I mention that today was Love Bug's school picture day? He was dressed all nicely in a button down with no hat because he has gorgeous curly hair. Let's just hope they took the school pictures in the morning before he started playing so his outfit wasn't too messed up.

Anyway. This ends my post for the day. Silly? Yes. But maybe I've inspired someone else out there to bust out of their own tiny hat closet. I will leave you with this image of an adorable dog in a tiny hat:

So. Tired.

Today I had work immediately after my overnight clinical. Does anyone else see a sad pattern here? So do I. That pattern is no sleep for me.

Squidward from the cartoon Sponge Bob Square Pants looking completely exhausted with bloodshot eyes and the text "I am not tired" superimposed on the picture.

Anyway, despite the lack of sleep I managed to make it through my scheduled 7-3 shift. I wore my black krav shirt and a black military-style cap with jeans and sneakers.

Me smiling despite the tiredness.

After work I took Love Bug to his classmate's Pokemon-themed birthday party. If I'd known the party was Pokemon-themed I would've worn something Pokemon-themed! Oh well. They had cake and pizza and happy kids so it was fun and Love Bug seemed to enjoy himself.

mercredi 18 septembre 2019

Crashing.

Today I went straight from my adults II overnight clinical to my public health school clinical. To say it was brutal would be an understatement. I went to sleep the second I got home, and all I want to do right now is stay asleep but I have to go back to the overnight clinical again. Ugh.

Today's hat is my dad's sunhat that somehow wound up in my closet. I am pairing it with pajamas I stole from Joy and my favorite cat slippers. Because I am too exhausted to change into anything even remotely stylish.

My Dad's hideous floppy tan safari hat.

The rest of my ridiculous outfit is hidden under this blanket.

At least my cat approves of my fashion choices?

Esh sniffing the cat slippers.

Work and Overnight Clinical

Today I have work and an overnight clinical. Yikes! I'll obviously be changing into scrubs for the clinical, but here's my hat outfit of the day:

Selfie of me wearing my outfit of the day.

I'm wearing a grey cap, a white shirt with thin grey stripes, grey slacks, and black shoes. As it turns out, I really like this cap. And this outfit.

Me again. I think I need to shave. But also I kind of like the scruff.

Belle's Birthday

Today was Belle's Birthday so we went out to brunch. You would think I'd have worn some sort of birthday hat but I was not that planful. Instead I wore my grey "Kum & Go" baseball cap, a grey t-shirt with buttons, jeans, and sneakers.

Belle and me at the brunch place. Not sure why I am making such a weird face haha.

Selfie of me smiling normally.
