Still Chugging Along

Nothing new to report. I'm still chugging along with school and work. Today I had my maternity clinical.

The other thing I did today was take a few house photos. Here you go:

My kitchen.

My favorite dinosaur planters.

The plant windows in the library.

And here's some random graffiti just because...

Sharpie on wood that says "God is coming back soon."

Thanksgiving Times Three

Wednesday was the first day of Thanksgiving break. I worked 7-3 and then visited Love Bug. I initially wanted to see him on Thanksgiving but his family is visiting then so I figured the day before was just as good. I read him a couple of books and we practiced playing catch. He likes playing with the ball but not so much throwing it back to me. He's pretty happy when it lands in his lap, though. We'll work on it. After hanging out with Love Bug I went to my church's Thanksgiving service and dinner - mostly out of curiosity since Thanksgiving is such a colonialist, racially loaded holiday and I wanted to see how they would handle it. I was pleased that they didn't just whitewash the history of the day, but I probably won't go again.

Thursday was officially Thanksgiving and I visited my family for an early meal aka my second Thanksgiving. This cartoon pretty much sums up family Thanksgiving:

Cartoon of two white people in military helmets in front of a seating chart titled "Operation: Seating Chart." One of them is saying "Aunt Millie is an alt-righter and Cousin Jimmy is a socialist, but if we seat the Episcopalians between all of them I think we have a shot at keeping the peace."

Then I went to visit friends for a queer vegan Friendsgiving aka my third Thanksgiving. Friendsgiving was my favorite one because there was no pressure and I could actually eat everything since it was vegan.

Me in my Thanksgiving attire.

Table for four (the fifth guest came later).

Dinner!

Four of the five people at Friendsgiving.

After Friendsgiving, I rushed off to work the overnight shift, which I then did again Friday night. I crashed for an extended nap after the overnight shift, then it was back to work for the 3-11. Then Sunday was church and another 3-11. I was a very tired me.

Me wearing house elf ears and frowning because I am overworked.

Today is Monday and all I have to do is sleep and study. Tomorrow I have two tests and a doctor's appointment. The fun just never stops around here. Sigh.

Meme that says "Yo dawg, I heard you like anxiety attacks so here's two nursing tests a week for the whole semester."

Almost Break

Thanksgiving Break starts on Wednesday but first I have to get through tomorrow's pharmacology class. I have spent so much time studying pharmacology. Bleh.

Meme that says "Pharmacology: Study ALL the drugs!"

Meme of Hermione that says "I just have to tell myself that I am Hermione,
nursing school is Hogwarts, and pharmacology is potions class."

I certainly hope potions class wasn't as miserable as pharmacology. But it probably was.

In other news, I talked to the pastor and officially joined my church. Hadwen Park Church is my new church home. Yay!

Hadwen Park Church. Isn't it cute?

Snowstorm!

Well, today we had a snowstorm. I'm not ready! On the plus side, I was able to take Love Bug out in the snow for a little bit and he was excited about it. He kept trying to give me handfuls of snow which was super adorable. He also tried to eat some snow and he was clearly dismayed at how cold it was.

My snowy street.

What else did I do? I visited with Alice. I had my a pathophysiology exam.

Meme that says "Good, good. Let the pathophysiology flow through you."

I also had a nursing simulation. Fortunately my simulation went better than this guy's:

Nurse with fake patient who has lost his genital piece.

I also had my maternity clinical. And ASL and Creole classes. And work. It has been a long week.

What's New?

Well the biggest news is that they finally finished processing my background check so I am officially Love Bug's visiting resource. Yay! We have our first visit scheduled and I'm excited about it.

What else happened?

I voted. I am happy to report that it worked since we upheld the trans antidiscrimination law. Huzzah!

Me with my "I Voted" sticker.
The other big thing that happened is that there were three giant explosions at around 10:15pm on Monday. There was no power for a large radius and the neighbors' kids wanted to light candles but we told them know because we were waiting for someone to tell us if there’s gas we should be worrying about. We did see a couple of firetrucks and cop cars but they just cruised slowly by without stopping. We decided we'd all chillax on my neighbor’s porch with blankets and beer and flashlights while the kids (who were all super excited about possibly not having school tomorrow) ran around in the street. I finally gave up and went back to bed around midnight. The rumor is that there was a large underground fire which caused exploding manhole covers, which is what made the exploding noises and blew out all the power.

I also had a text, a lab, and my maternity clinical. It's ridiculous to me how many tests we have in this program. Sheesh!
